How does my Purposehood Statement help me make the right decisions in my life?
April 2, 2019
My friend, you are a creature of choice. With infinite desires come a tremendous number of decisions you need to make daily. The result of those decisions is who you are today, and if you want to change your life, you need a process to make better decisions. Thankfully, the majority
of your daily decisions are trivial and are made by your unconscious mind through habits, social and environmental cues, and prior experiences. You don’t need a logical decision-making process to react to a horn sound while you cross the road.
However, significant life choices such as a college major, your career, relationships, investments, and any major commitments require a thoughtful decision-making process. Decisions are too often made based on mindless urges and misguided values, and often rely on emotions, not logic, so in order to make better ones you need to first ensure that your inner processor is aligned with your Purposehood. You can do this primarily through the five daily practices and the Five Streams of Potentiality, which I will discuss later.
While people think they are making logical choices and weighing the right information, researchers have found that even “thoughtful” decision-making is much less logical than we think. A Purposehooder with the right orientation, starting from their existential desire and moving toward their Purposehood Guiding Star, will have a binary decision-making process that simplifies their life and makes every decision they make a source of happiness, success, and fulfillment.
